Project Overview.

On March 29, 2024, Murals.ng was honored with an exciting commission from a distinguished businessman looking to transform the lift lobby of his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. The client had previously adorned his lobby with art but sought something unique that could capture the vibrant essence of Lagos’s diverse scenery. During his visit to the gallery, he admired several pieces, particularly “Egungun I,” a stunning work by our in-house artist, Yemi. Impressed by Yemi’s craftsmanship, we entrusted him with the hand-drawing of the proposed artwork titled “Views from Bourdillon.” Our CEO, Olufemi Adeleke, came up with the idea to blend Lagos’ famous landmarks, lively cityscapes, and coastal views into a piece that captures the dynamic spirit of the city.

Client Vision.

Our client’s vision included iconic landmarks such as the Civic Centre, the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Lagos CMS Cathedral, the National Theater, NITEL, Lagos Metro, The Alakija Tower, and various notable buildings on the island, all illustrated within the same geographic space.

This ambitious artwork aimed to enhance his lobby wall, bringing the essence of Lagos to life while maintaining a sophisticated and modern atmosphere.

Project Scope.

"Views from Bourdillon" is one of our greatest masterpieces, initially hand-sketched by an in-house artist. This sketch was framed and presented to the client, then used as the blueprint for a digital version. A 3D render was created to give our client a lifelike preview of the artwork before it was printed and installed.

The project took about three months to complete due to its complexity and the need for perfection. This timeline highlights our dedication to delivering exceptional quality and precision in every detail.

Design and planning process.

This client discovered Murals.ng on Instagram and was impressed by our work, leading him to visit our gallery at Banex Mall, Lekki, for a consultation. During this meeting, he discussed with our CEO, Mr. Femi, his interest in commissioning a mural for his lift lobby. Mr. Femi proposed the concept of "Views from Bourdillon," a mural that would merge various scenes and landmarks of Lagos into a cohesive artwork.

Following this initial concept, our team proceeded with the design proposal, which included detailed sketching and 3D rendering to visualize the final piece. After incorporating the client’s feedback and making necessary revisions, the production of "Views from Bourdillon" began, setting the stage for a stunning transformation of his space.

Execution and installation.

Materials and Techniques.

"Views from Bourdillon" started as a detailed charcoal pencil sketch by our in-house artist, Yemi, and it became our first digitized handmade painting. We photographed the hand-drawn piece in sections, then used digital tools to stitch everything back together. After digitizing, we created 3D renders of the artwork, which was then printed onto mural strips and installed by our production team.

Team Involvement

The "Views from Bourdillon" project was a collaborative effort involving key team members. Femi Adeleke, our CEO, handled the consultation and design proposal. Then the Production Manager conducted the site inspection. An in-house artist created the initial hand sketch, which was then digitized by our digital artist. Our architect developed the 3D render and design, ensuring a cohesive and stunning final product. The final step was our production team installing the artwork in the client’s lobby, bringing the vision to life.

Installation Process

The installation of the mural took a few hours to complete. Two skilled installers were on-site, handling the setup with precision to ensure a smooth and flawless installation.

Challenges

"Views from Bourdillon" marked our first time digitizing a handmade artwork, and the process came with its challenges.

Due to the width of the piece, we initially tried to photograph it as a whole for digitisation , but that didn’t work, so we had to capture it in sections. When it came time to install the mural, the structural intricacies of the wall made aligning the wallpaper strips a challenge. This led to minor, barely noticeable gaps above certain areas of the wall, but our production team expertly covered them to ensure a seamless and polished finish.

The entire project, including the drawing, digitization ans installation ,took about three months to complete due to its complexity.

Results

Views from Bourdillon successfully transformed the client’s lobby with a sophisticated depiction of Lagos’s landmarks. The careful design and rendering process ensured a high-quality result that exceeded expectations, showcasing Murals.ng’s commitment to exceptional, personalized art.
