Project Overview.

Murals.ng was commissioned to create wall installations for Boho Fashion Lounge, a new underground fashion club in Victoria Island, Lagos, owned by the team behind Zaza, one of the city’s most renowned clubs. The owners, who have established Zaza as a top destination in Lagos, wanted to ensure that Boho offered a distinct and elevated experience, different from their other ventures. They enlisted a renowned Turkish interior designer, Aline Karouta, the founder and CEO of ak_idesigns, to bring a fresh, unique identity to this hidden venue who found our work on Instagram and reached out to collaborate.

After a thorough site inspection and consultation led by our CEO, Femi Adeleke, it was clear that the required walls were both soundproof and visually stunning. Aline Karouta proposed the use of padded wallpapers, a concept we had never tackled before. This challenge pushed our team to conduct extensive research and develop nearly 20 prototypes before finalizing the perfect design. The padded wallpaper panels were made with acoustic foam to ensure soundproofing, and they needed to look firm and tight while also being securely attached to the walls without any damage. The project not only tested but also showcased our creativity and problem-solving skills, resulting in a sophisticated design that perfectly complements Boho's exclusive underground ambiance.

Client Vision.

The vision for Boho was to create an exclusive atmosphere within the underground club’s setting, combining advanced soundproofing with a visually stunning design. We created padded wallpaper panels that provided the necessary soundproofing while contributing to the overall visual appeal. Additionally, we designed stretched ceilings and wallpaper murals for the toilets, further enhancing the club’s distinctive aesthetic.

Murals.ng was responsible for designing and installing stretched ceilings that complemented the club’s overall aesthetic. Our team also created wallpaper material murals for the toilets, ensuring that every part of the club maintained a cohesive and captivating design. Each element of the project was carefully crafted to align with the vision of transforming Boho into a premier destination that stands out.

Design and Planning Process

The design and planning process for Boho was an exciting and collaborative adventure. We started with detailed consultations to understand the unique vision of this underground club. A significant challenge was creating padded wallpaper panels for soundproofing, which was a new venture for us. We conducted thorough research and developed around 20 prototypes to strike the right balance between acoustic performance and visual appeal.

3D rendering played a crucial role in this process, helping us visualize how the padded panels and other design elements would come together. This visualization ensured that the final design met the client's expectations before we moved into full-scale production. In addition to the padded wallpaper panels, we incorporated some of these panels into the ceilings and designed stretched ceilings to enhance the space’s overall aesthetic. We also created wallpaper material murals for the toilets, ensuring a cohesive and immersive environment throughout the club. This project showcased our team’s creativity and commitment, resulting in a truly standout space.

Execution and Installation 

Materials and Techniques.

We digitally designed wall panels, ceilings, and murals. For the padded panels, we used acoustic foam covered with wallpaper materials, stretched over foam, and mounted on boards. Some ceilings featured these padded panels, while others used stretched ceilings. Toilets were adorned with standard mural strips, each room having unique designs but following a cohesive concept.

Team Involvement 

Our marketing team played a crucial role by showcasing our work on Instagram, leading the renowned Turkish interior designer to us. The sales team facilitated online consultations, while the production team, alongside Mr. Femi Adeleke, managed the consultation and installation phases to ensure every detail was executed perfectly. The digital artist crafted the detailed designs for the panels, ceilings, and murals. Skilled installers then brought these designs to life on-site, highlighting the collaborative effort of our entire team.

Challenges

Developing the padded wallpaper panels was particularly challenging, as it was our first time creating such panels. We went through about 20 prototypes to perfect the balance between acoustic performance and visual appeal. 

The installation process posed additional difficulties; as we couldn’t nail the panels to the walls or ceilings to avoid damage, so we had to find a strong attachment method that ensured the panels stayed in place. Integrating these panels into both walls and ceilings added complexity, and coordinating distinct designs for each room while maintaining a cohesive overall aesthetic further tested our creativity and problem-solving skills.

Result

The Boho project successfully transformed the underground space into an exclusive and visually stunning venue. The custom padded panels, stretched ceilings, and unique murals created a cohesive and immersive atmosphere.
