    Ibadan Premiere Hotel

Modernizing a Cultural Icon Without Losing Its Soul

    About the Project

Ibadan Premiere Hotel is being reimagined as a contemporary hospitality destination without severing the memory that made it a city landmark. The project begins from preservation—not of every existing detail, but of the identity, familiarity, and civic presence guests already associate with the property.

Murals.ng is developing the art direction, mural language, and interior consultation as a spatial storytelling system. The aim is to help a new guest experience emerge from the hotel's history rather than replace it with an anonymous version of modern hospitality.

Modernisation is most valuable when guests can feel what has changed without losing what the place means.

    The Context

An established landmark carries expectations that a new hotel does not.

Premiere Hotel belongs to Ibadan's public memory. Any transformation must therefore answer two audiences at once: returning guests who recognise the institution and contemporary travellers who expect a more considered, cohesive hospitality experience.

The opportunity is not to imitate the past or erase it. It is to identify the qualities worth carrying forward and give them a visual language capable of living confidently in the present.

    The Direction

Heritage becomes a guide for the new guest journey.

Art direction is being used to connect arrival, circulation, social spaces, and quieter interiors through one story. Murals and curated visual moments will establish landmarks across the property, while material and colour decisions preserve enough restraint for the architecture to remain legible.

This approach treats every intervention as part of a sequence. Guests should encounter the hotel's identity through atmosphere and movement—not only through a single feature wall or historical reference.

    The Balance

Cultural specificity must feel integrated, not themed.

The project avoids treating heritage as a decorative vocabulary applied uniformly across rooms. References are being selected for their relationship to place, memory, and hospitality, then translated into contemporary compositions appropriate to each surface.

That balance allows the hotel to become more culturally articulate without becoming visually nostalgic. The goal is a destination that feels renewed, authored, and unmistakably connected to Ibadan.

    In Development

A transformation built to preserve recognition while creating new relevance.

The work remains an upcoming hospitality transformation. Its current value lies in the clarity of the design system: a framework through which architecture, mural art, and interior experience can evolve together.

As the project develops, that framework will guide how the hotel's history is encountered—not as a static archive, but as a living part of its next chapter.

Ibadan Premiere Hotel is being shaped around continuity with intention: preserving the soul of a recognised landmark while giving contemporary guests a more coherent, culturally grounded experience.
